Matsudana is an eighteenth-century chinoiserie pattern depicting pastoral scenes from the East: trees, flag-festooned boats and figures set into a delicate, fanciful composition that shares the spirit of a toile. The modest scale suits the lightness of the drawing, and a wide border runs down both selvedges, so the cloth can be used as a centred panel on curtains or cut for cushions and other accessories.
Printed in Thailand from cotton, it is 137 centimetres wide with a 43-centimetre vertical repeat and a 137-centimetre horizontal repeat that spans the full width. Dry cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery, and is printed in several colourways.
