Schumacher | Merrifield Sampler

Merrifield Sampler is an embroidered design inspired by early American needlework samplers, with cross-stitched motifs—buildings, birdcages, figures, peacocks—set within alphabet borders. Hand-drawn in the Schumacher studio, the design has a folk-art directness, and the borders can be detached and used as curtain tiebacks.

Embroidered in India on a ground of 79 per cent cotton and 21 per cent viscose, it is 135 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 58 centimetres and a horizontal repeat that runs the full width of the cloth. Dry cleaning is recommended. It suits cushions and upholstery, though the mid-scale repeat and detachable borders make it especially apt for window treatments.
