Schumacher | Ming Embroidery

Ming Embroidery layers chinoiserie vases and blooms across a silk jacquard ground, the motifs built up in satin-stitch embroidery at a scale large enough to be read as individual tableaux. The technique gives the design a dimensional, textural quality that catches light and shadow differently across the cloth.

Made in India, it is woven and embroidered from silk and viscose on a 140-centimetre width, with repeats of 123 centimetres vertically and 122 centimetres horizontally. Dry cleaning is recommended. It suits curtains and blinds where the full repeat can unfold, as well as upholstery and cushions, and individual motifs can be cut out and applied to chair backs or other decorative uses.
