Schumacher | Ocean Toile

Ocean Toile takes the conventions of eighteenth-century pastoral toile and turns them underwater, depicting marine life and seascapes in place of the usual shepherds and ruins. Based on a period document, the design is an oddity—toile as natural history rather than Arcadia—and singular for it.

Printed in France on 100 per cent cotton, it is 138 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 93 centimetres and a horizontal of 69. Dry cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery.
