Schumacher | Ombelli Jacquard Velvet

Ombelli Jacquard Velvet is a silk velvet with a stylised floral pattern woven in relief, the pile catching light across the surface so the design shifts as you move around it. First introduced in 1903, the Art Nouveau motif is worked at a large scale with a sensual, organic rhythm. The cloth is woven on eighteenth-century looms, a slow process that produces just six metres a day.

Woven in Italy from 70 per cent silk with cotton and metallic thread, it is 130 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 81 centimetres and a horizontal repeat of 46 centimetres. Dry cleaning is recommended. It suits cushions and upholstery, where the depth and sheen of the velvet can be appreciated at close range.
