Schumacher | Somerset Crewel

Somerset Crewel is a large-scale embroidered floral worked in wool on a soft cotton ground, the stitching forming scrolling stems, stylised blossoms and leaves in a variety of crewel techniques. The design has a loose, lively quality, the hand of the embroidery giving it movement and depth, and the scale—a 108-centimetre vertical repeat, 124 horizontal—means it needs space to be seen whole.

Made in India, the cloth is 96 per cent cotton with 4 per cent wool, 130 centimetres wide, and should be dry-cleaned. It suits upholstery, curtains, blinds and cushions, the embroidered surface bringing texture and pattern to furniture and windows alike.
