Western Toile sets North American wildlife and domesticated animals into a toile de Jouy, the design drawn by hand in Schumacher's studio and inspired by an 18th-century Jean-Baptiste Huet original in the archive. The pattern has the etched, narrative quality of historical toile but the subject matter is New World rather than pastoral France, and the medium scale allows the scenes to be read clearly.
Printed in the United Kingdom on 100% linen, it is 137 centimetres wide with a 101-centimetre vertical repeat and a 97-centimetre horizontal repeat. Water-based cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery, including walls, and is available in several colourways. The design is also available as wallpaper.
