Ambit is a small-scale hand-drawn print from the Threads Nala Prints collection, worked at a much finer scale than the rest of the range. The repeat is just 4 by 3.5 centimetres, so up close it reads as a scatter of individual marks, echoing the tribal architecture and textiles that inspired the collection, while from across a room it settles into a fine, even texture. Being pure cotton, the ground is crisp and takes the print cleanly, holding the fine detail of each mark well.
The cloth is 100 per cent cotton, 135 centimetres wide, with a 4 centimetre vertical and 3.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. There is no rub count published, so we treat it as a curtain and light-seating cloth rather than a cloth for a family sofa, even though the page lists it for loose and fixed upholstery too. It comes in two colourways, Indigo and Teal: Indigo is the deep, graphic blue, and Teal is the collection's signature blue-green.
We tend to use Ambit for curtains in a study or guest bedroom, for Roman blinds where the fine scale reads well up close, and for an occasional chair or bench cushion, where the small scale never overwhelms a modest piece of furniture. It pairs well with a plain linen or the wider-scale Nala prints elsewhere in the room. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
The small repeat is easy to match, but keep the pattern aligned across every width and centre it on a chair seat or cushion before the cutter starts. Line and interline curtains to protect the cotton from strong sun and to help the drop hang straight; dry clean only.
