Threads | Artisan Plain

Artisan Plain is a softly textured wallcovering from the Threads Variation Wallpaper collection, with no printed motif at all, just the fine, all-over grain of a well-made non-woven paper. It has the quiet, artisanal character of a hand-finished surface, closer to a limewashed wall or a length of raw linen than to a conventional printed paper, and it works as a genuine backdrop rather than a statement in its own right, the paper we reach for when a room needs calm more than character.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat, since there is no motif to match. It comes in a single colourway, Aqua, a soft, pale blue-green that brings gentle colour to a room without overwhelming it, sitting quietly behind furniture, art or a bolder fabric.

We tend to use Artisan Plain across a whole room, in a bedroom or a bathroom where a flat colour with a little texture is exactly what is needed, or on a single wall behind furniture where it will not compete with anything else. It pairs well with a printed Faraway or Nala cushion and with plain linen curtains. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Roll width for this paper is 52 centimetres; roll lengths are commonly around 10 metres as an industry rule of thumb, giving roughly three drops on a standard 2.4 metre wall, so a typical room would need several rolls depending on its perimeter, and we always confirm the true roll length before ordering. Hang paste-the-wall, as is standard for a non-woven paper, and butt the joins; with no pattern there is nothing to match, so wastage is minimal.
