Threads | Becket

Becket is a cotton-linen stripe from the Threads Great Stripes collection, with a 12 centimetre repeat that reads as a clear, confident line rather than a fine pinstripe. The stripe is woven into the cloth, giving it a slight ridge to the touch as well as to the eye, and the cotton-linen blend keeps the hand dry and substantial, with more than enough body to hold its own on a large piece of furniture.

The composition is 44 per cent cotton and 56 per cent linen, on a 132 centimetre width with a 12 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in two colourways, Taupe and Ebony: Taupe is the softer, more neutral stripe, and Ebony the darkest, most graphic option for a room built on contrast.

We tend to use Becket on sofas and armchairs where a woven stripe adds structure without pattern, on dining chairs, and as full-length curtains where the line reinforces the height of a window. It pairs well with a plain from Luxury Weaves or a print from Faraway on a cushion nearby. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Match the 12 centimetre stripe carefully across widths and centre it on seat panels and cushions before the cutter starts, and keep the direction of the stripe consistent on every piece cut from the same bolt. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it directly, and trim seams flat on tight corners.
