Threads | Boundary

Boundary is a hand-drawn print from the Threads Nala Prints collection, taking its structure from the tribal architecture and textiles of West Africa, like the rest of the range. The motif is a loosely repeated mark, 18 by 17 centimetres, drawn rather than ruled, so it has the discipline of a printed grid but the softness of something worked by hand. The linen-cotton ground keeps the surface matte, letting the drawing carry the design.

The cloth is 40 per cent linen and 60 per cent cotton, 136 centimetres wide, with an 18 centimetre vertical and 17 centimetre horizontal repeat. There is no rub count published, so we treat it as a curtain and light-seating cloth rather than a cloth for a family sofa, even though the page lists it for loose and fixed upholstery too. It comes in two colourways, Teal and Dove: Teal is the collection's graphic blue-green, and Dove is the soft, quiet grey for a more restrained room.

We tend to use Boundary for curtains in a living room or study, where the drawn motif gives the room a point of view, and for Roman blinds where it sits flat and reads well, or an occasional chair where use is light. It pairs well with a plain linen weave on the main seating. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full 18 centimetre repeat per drop when calculating curtain quantities, and match the pattern across the width so the drawing lines up at the seams. For a chair, centre the motif on the seat and inside back before the cutter starts, and line and interline curtains to protect the linen from sun; dry clean only.
