Threads | Braganza

Braganza is a textured linen-viscose weave from the Threads Faraway collection, with a large 38 by 64.5 centimetre repeat that moves across the cloth as a soft, irregular rhythm rather than a clear motif. The blend of linen, viscose, cotton and spun polyester gives it a dry, natural surface with just enough body to hold its shape at a window, and the scale of the repeat means the texture reads clearly even from the far side of a room.

The composition is 36 per cent linen, 28 per cent viscose, 19 per cent cotton and 17 per cent spun polyester, on a 129 centimetre width with a 38 centimetre vertical repeat and a 64.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. The page lists it for curtains; there is no rub count, so it is not one we would put on seating. It comes in two colourways, Linen and Parchment, both soft, warm neutrals that sit close together in tone, Linen being the slightly cooler of the two.

We tend to use Braganza for full-length curtains in a living room or study, where the scale of the repeat can be read properly, and for Roman blinds in a bedroom. It pairs well with a plainer weave from Quintessential Naturals on the sofa and with a print from Faraway Wallpaper on the wall behind. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full 38 centimetre repeat per drop and match the pattern across widths, planning the join where the drawing is quietest; on a 129 centimetre cloth, most windows will need at least two widths per curtain. Line and interline for weight, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it directly.
