Threads | Butabu

Butabu is a rich, multi-fibre textured weave from the Threads Luxury Weaves II collection, combining cotton with viscose, nylon, acrylic, wool and a little linen into a dense, tactile plain with a fine, irregular grain. The 9 by 36 centimetre repeat is worked into the structure of the weave rather than printed on top, so it reads as a natural, slightly variegated texture across a sofa arm or a curtain fold.

The composition is 60 per cent cotton, 14 per cent viscose, 11 per cent nylon, 9 per cent acrylic, 5 per cent wool and 1 per cent linen, on a 144 centimetre width with a 9 centimetre vertical and 36 centimetre horizontal repeat. There is no published rub count, so for seating we would keep this to occasional chairs and headboards rather than a family sofa, though the page also lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in two colourways, Ivory and Charcoal: Ivory is the soft neutral, Charcoal the deep, grounded option for a room that wants more contrast.

We tend to use Butabu on a tall upholstered headboard, a pair of occasional chairs, or as heavy curtains where the weight of the cloth helps the drape. It pairs well with a plainer linen weave elsewhere in the room, so the texture of Butabu carries the scheme. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Match the repeat across widths where it matters, on a headboard or a seat panel, and keep the weave direction consistent on every piece cut from the same bolt. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it directly.
