Threads | Caldera

Caldera is a plain pure linen weave from the Threads Quintessential Naturals collection, with no pattern or repeat at all, just the natural, slightly irregular surface that good linen gives on its own. It is about as simple as the collection gets, which is exactly why we reach for it when a room needs texture without anything else competing for attention, and why it sits so comfortably alongside pattern elsewhere in a wider scheme.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 137 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat. The page lists it for curtains, and the collection is designed for curtains and blinds; there is no rub count, so it is not one we would use on seating. It comes in a single colourway, Ivory, a clean, cool white that suits pale, plaster-led schemes especially well and reads calmly against most floor tones.

We tend to use Caldera for full-length curtains in a bedroom or living room, and for Roman blinds in a kitchen or bathroom, where a flat panel of plain linen looks calm and thoroughly considered. It pairs well with almost anything from the Faraway or Nala Prints collections on cushions or a chair nearby. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat, quantities are the simplest in the whole collection, but the weave can shade slightly along the roll, so cut all the pieces for one window from the same bolt. Line and interline the curtains to give the linen weight and to protect it from sun, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it directly, and allow a generous hem for natural movement.
