Threads | Cami

Cami is a textured plain from the Threads Odyssey Weaves collection, a viscose-led blend with cotton for structure. The surface has a fine, even grain with a soft, slightly lustrous sheen typical of viscose, so it catches light gently across a sofa arm or a curtain fold without ever looking shiny. There is no motif, just the quiet interest of a well-made weave, the kind of plain that never looks like an afterthought.

The cloth is 65 per cent viscose and 35 per cent cotton, 137 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat to plan around. It is rated at 35,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in two colourways, Ivory and Taupe: Ivory is the paler neutral for a bright room, and Taupe is the warmer, deeper option that hides marks well on a well-used piece.

We tend to use Cami on sofas and armchairs where a plain has to carry the room, on a headboard, and as curtains where the cloth's soft sheen catches the light at the window. It pairs well with a printed cushion from one of the Nala collections or a striped weave on an occasional chair, and it makes a good, hard-wearing choice for a window seat. There is no repeat, but viscose weaves can shade slightly along the roll, so cut all the pieces for one item from the same bolt and keep the weave direction consistent between seat, back and arms. Line and interline curtains so the weight of the cloth hangs straight, and dry clean rather than wash.
