Threads | Eclipse

Eclipse is a large-scale abstract weave from the Threads Variation collection, a group of modern statement weaves and embroideries. The design is worked into the weave itself rather than printed on top, with a broad, softly shifting structure that repeats every 52 by 46.5 centimetres, so it reads as a subtle play of light and shadow across a curtain rather than a graphic motif. The silk content gives it a low, changeable lustre that the viscose ground keeps from ever looking flashy.

The cloth is 91 per cent viscose and 9 per cent silk, 139 centimetres wide, with a 52 centimetre vertical and 46.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. There is no rub count published, and the page lists it for curtains rather than upholstery, so we keep it to windows and cushions. It comes in a single colourway, Silver/Stone, a soft, metallic-toned neutral that shifts between pale grey and warm stone as the light changes.

We tend to use Eclipse for full-length curtains in a living room or drawing room, where the large structure and the shift of light reward a generous drop, and for a pair of cushions against a plain velvet or linen sofa. It pairs well with a plain textured weave elsewhere in the room, so Eclipse remains the one piece of movement. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Allow a full 52 centimetre repeat per drop when calculating curtain quantities, and match the pattern across the width so the structure lines up at the seams; ask your maker to check the position of the design at the heading before cutting. Line and interline curtains to protect the silk content from strong sun, and dry clean only.
