Epoch is a textured plain from the Threads Quintessential Naturals collection, a group of easy woven cloths for curtains and blinds. The weave mixes cotton with polyester and a cellulose fibre, so the surface has the dry, slubbed look of a natural cloth with rather more stability than a pure linen: it hangs straight, holds its shape and moves less with humidity. There is no motif; the interest is in the grain of the weave and its soft, papery handle.
The composition is 45 per cent cotton, 40 per cent polyester and 15 per cent cellulose on a 137 centimetre width, with no pattern repeat. The page lists it for curtains, and the collection is made for curtains and blinds; there is no rub count and it is not intended for seating. It comes in a single colourway, Parchment, a warm off-white that sits between chalk and string and works with most wall colours, from white to deep green.
We tend to use Epoch for full-length curtains in a bedroom or living room where we want the look of linen without the movement, and for Roman blinds in a kitchen or bathroom where the extra stability keeps the panel flat. It pairs well with a heavier textured weave on the sofa and with a printed cushion from the Nala Prints or the Faraway collection. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
There is no repeat to match, but keep the direction of the weave consistent across widths and cut all the drops for a window from one bolt to avoid shading. Line the curtains, and interline them where the drop is long, to give the cloth enough weight to hang in soft, even folds; the cellulose content means it should be dry cleaned rather than washed.
