Fes is a textured weave from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, blending cotton, viscose and linen with a touch of nylon for strength. The surface has a soft, slightly irregular grain, closer to a hand-loomed cloth than a milled one, with the viscose giving it a gentle sheen that shifts as the light moves across it. There is no motif, just a rich, tactile plain built to be used hard, day after day, without losing its character.

The composition is 48 per cent cotton, 35 per cent viscose, 12 per cent linen and 5 per cent nylon, on a 128 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Parchment, a warm, sandy neutral that sits comfortably against timber, stone and darker woods alike, and layers well with a stronger colour close by.

We tend to use Fes on a sofa or a pair of club chairs where the cloth's soft sheen catches the light, on an ottoman, and as heavy curtains where its weight helps the fold. It pairs well with a printed cushion or a plain linen on a second seat. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat, quantities are simple, but the blend can shade subtly along the roll, so cut every piece for one item from the same bolt and keep the weave direction consistent between seat, back and arms. The nylon content adds strength at the seams, but the cloth should still be dry cleaned rather than washed.
