Threads | Halo

Halo is a substantial performance weave from the Threads Winch Design Indoor I Outdoor collection, made in recycled polyester with a 45.5 by 22.5 centimetre repeat that gives the surface a soft, structured texture rather than a printed pattern. Developed with Winch Design, it has the resilience to move between an outdoor lounge and an indoor sofa without looking or feeling like a technical cloth, and the recycled content is a point in its favour for anyone weighing up a more sustainable specification.

The cloth is 100 per cent recycled polyester, 135 centimetres wide, with a 45.5 centimetre vertical and 22.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery, indoors or out. It comes in five colourways, Cloud, Earth, Ocean, Marine and Moss, running from soft greys and browns through two blues to a grounded green.

We tend to use Halo on outdoor sofas and loungers, on a bench in a garden room, and indoors on dining chairs or a family sofa where hard wear and the odd spill are a fact of life. It pairs well with the plainer Winch Design weaves and with teak, stone and powder-coated metal. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Match the repeat across widths and centre it on cushions and seat panels before the cutter starts. Covers can be machine washed cool on a minimum wash or dry cleaned professionally; do not tumble dry, and cool iron only, using a solution-dyed thread if the pieces are going to live outside for the season.
