Infinity is a plain performance weave from the Threads Winch Design Indoor I Outdoor Textures collection, developed with Winch Design for use inside and out. There is no motif, only the fine, even structure of the acrylic weave, which gives it a soft, matte surface that behaves like a natural fibre while shrugging off sun, salt air and rain. It is the kind of versatile plain that can run from a terrace sofa straight through to a living room curtain.
The cloth is 100 per cent acrylic, 140 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 30,000 rubs on the Martindale test, light-to-medium duty for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery, indoors or out. It comes in a remarkable 17 colourways, from pale neutrals such as Ivory, Stone and Sesame through mid-tones like Teal and Indigo to darker ones such as Slate and Ink, so there is a genuine range to draw a whole scheme from.
We tend to use Infinity on outdoor sofas and dining chairs, on a covered terrace where a plain has to work hard in changing light, and indoors on curtains or a window seat where washability matters. It pairs well with the plainer weaves elsewhere in the Winch Design range and with teak, rope and pale stone outside. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
With no repeat, quantities are straightforward, but order all the cloth for one piece from the same batch, since acrylic can vary subtly between dye lots. Covers can be machine washed cool on a minimum wash or dry cleaned; do not tumble dry, bleach or iron. Use outdoor foam and a solution-dyed thread if the piece is going to live outside for the season.
