Threads | Jura

Jura is a textured plain from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, woven from viscose and linen with a touch of nylon for strength. The surface has a fine, slightly irregular grain that catches light without ever reading as pattern, and the viscose content gives it a low, natural sheen that linen alone does not have. It is a substantial cloth, with enough body to carry a large piece of furniture on its own.

The composition is 73 per cent viscose, 24 per cent linen and 3 per cent nylon, on a 137 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Parchment, a warm neutral that works with pale oak, plaster pink and most stone floors.

We tend to use Jura on sofas and armchairs where a plain has to do the work of the whole room, on a window seat, and as heavy curtains where the weight helps the drape. It pairs well with a printed cushion from the Nala Prints or a striped weave from Great Stripes on an occasional chair. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

There is no repeat, so quantities are simple, but the weave can shade slightly along the roll, so cut every piece for one item from the same bolt and keep the grain running the same way across seat, back and arms. For curtains we line and interline for weight, and it is dry clean only, so ask your upholsterer to plan loose covers with that in mind.
