Threads | Luxor

Luxor is a substantial textured weave from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, built from acrylic, virgin wool, linen, cotton and small amounts of nylon, polyester and bamboo into a dense, tactile plain. The 69 by 68 centimetre repeat is close to square and worked into the structure of the weave, giving the surface a soft, slightly cushioned grain rather than a printed pattern, with a depth to the cloth you can feel as much as see.

The composition is 33 per cent acrylic, 24 per cent virgin wool, 22 per cent linen, 9 per cent cotton, 5 per cent polyester, 4 per cent bamboo and 3 per cent nylon, on a 136 centimetre width with a 69 centimetre vertical and 68 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Ivory, a soft, warm white that works with almost any neutral scheme.

We tend to use Luxor on sofas and armchairs where a plain has to carry the room, on a large ottoman, and as heavy curtains where the weight helps the drape. It pairs well with a printed cushion from Faraway or a striped weave from Great Stripes on an occasional chair. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With a repeat this close to square, match it carefully across widths and centre it on cushions and seat panels before the cutter starts. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; the wool content means it should never be washed or ironed directly.
