Marcella is a soft, textured weave from the Threads Odyssey collection, blending cotton, viscose, acrylic and linen into a plain with a fine, slightly irregular grain and a gentle sheen where the viscose catches the light. There is no pattern to read, only the texture of the weave itself, which gives a room a quiet, tactile surface rather than a bold statement. The acrylic content adds a little resilience too, so the cloth keeps its shape well over time.
The composition is 45 per cent cotton, 30 per cent viscose, 15 per cent acrylic, 7 per cent linen and 3 per cent polyester, on a 137 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 18,000 rubs on the Martindale test, which is a moderate figure, so we treat it as a curtain and light-seating cloth rather than one for a family sofa, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in three colourways, Delft, Platinum and Shingle: Delft is a clear, classic blue, Platinum a cool pale grey, and Shingle a soft, stony taupe.
We tend to use Marcella for full-length curtains in a living room or bedroom, on an occasional chair, and as a cushion against a plainer sofa. It pairs well with a heavier textured weave from Quintessential Textures on the main seating. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
There is no repeat, so quantities are simple, but the weave can shade slightly along the roll, so cut all pieces for one item from the same bolt. Line and interline curtains for weight, and given the moderate rub count, keep upholstered pieces to occasional chairs rather than daily-use seating; it is dry clean only.
