Threads | Marmion

Marmion is a finely textured weave from the Threads Fascination collection, a group of tonal jacquards built for both curtains and light upholstery. A soft, irregular structure runs through the cloth, repeating every 32 by 17.5 centimetres, tight enough to read as texture rather than pattern from normal viewing distance. The viscose-rich blend gives it a slight sheen that shifts gently as the light in a room changes through the day, from flat in the morning to almost silvery by evening.

The cloth is 59 per cent viscose and 41 per cent cotton, 137 centimetres wide, with a 32 centimetre vertical repeat and a 17.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 20,000 rubs on the Martindale test, light duty, so we would keep it to curtains, cushions and occasional chairs rather than a family sofa in daily use. It comes in a single colourway, Hop, a soft, yellow-green that works well against warm neutrals and pale timber.

We tend to use Marmion for curtains in a living room or study, where the texture and the soft sheen read well at a distance, and for a pair of occasional chairs or a window seat cushion that will not take heavy daily wear. Pair it with a plain linen or a heavier textured weave elsewhere in the room, so the sheen has room to be noticed. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Match the fine repeat across joined widths and keep the weave direction consistent on any occasional upholstery, since the viscose sheen shows inconsistency more readily than a matte cloth would. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; do not bleach or iron it directly, since viscose is easily damaged by heat and by hard pressing.
