Threads | Medina

Medina is a finely textured weave from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, built from viscose, wool and acrylic with linen and cotton worked through for body. A very small structure, just 2 by 6.5 centimetres, runs through the cloth, tight enough that it reads as a rich, slightly nubbly surface rather than a pattern. The wool content gives it a softer, warmer hand than the plainer textures in the same collection.

The composition is 31 per cent viscose, 21 per cent polyacrylic, 21 per cent wool, 11 per cent cotton, 10 per cent linen, 5 per cent polyester and 1 per cent nylon, on a 130 centimetre width, with a fine 2 centimetre vertical and 6.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, a proper upholstery figure, and the page also lists it for curtains. It comes in a single colourway, Parchment, a warm, pale neutral with a soft depth to it from the wool content.

We tend to use Medina on a sofa or a pair of armchairs where a wool-rich plain needs to feel substantial, on a footstool, and as heavy curtains where the weight helps the drape. It pairs well with a printed cushion from the Faraway collection or a striped accent on an occasional chair. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The fine repeat can be treated as a plain for cutting purposes, but keep the weave direction consistent across every panel of one piece to avoid visible shading between cuts. Wool-rich blends like this one should be brushed gently rather than vigorously cleaned; dry clean only, and do not bleach or iron it directly.
