Threads | Mendoza

Mendoza is a rich, multi-fibre textured plain from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, blending viscose, cotton, acrylic, wool, linen, nylon and polyester into one dense, tactile surface. There is no motif; the interest is entirely in the mix of yarns, which gives the cloth a slightly irregular, almost tweed-like grain up close and a soft, even colour from a distance. The wool content in particular gives it a warmth and softness that a purely synthetic weave would not have.

The composition is 34 per cent viscose, 19 per cent cotton, 16 per cent polyacrylic, 13 per cent wool, 12 per cent linen, 3 per cent nylon and 3 per cent polyester, on a 134 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. There is no published rub count, so for seating we would keep this to occasional chairs rather than a family sofa, though the page also lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Ivory, a soft, warm white that sits well against most neutrals.

We tend to use Mendoza on an occasional chair, a headboard, or as heavy curtains where the weight of the cloth helps the drape. It pairs well with a plainer linen weave from Quintessential Naturals on the main sofa, so the texture of Mendoza stays the focal point. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat, quantities are straightforward, but the weave has a visible grain and can shade slightly along the roll, so cut all pieces for one item from the same bolt. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; a blend this rich in fibres is best tested on a hidden seam first.
