Moro is a geometric tile design from the Threads Vinyl Wallpaper collection, its name a nod to the patterned tilework of Moorish and North African interiors. Interlocking blocks are arranged in a half-drop layout across the width, each one given a faint textured surface that stops the geometry from reading as flat or graphic. It sits somewhere between architectural and handmade, formal enough for a hallway, warm enough for a bedroom.
The paper is a vinyl on a paper backing, 68.5 centimetres wide, with a 76.2 centimetre vertical repeat and a 68.5 centimetre horizontal repeat in a half-drop match, hung paste-the-wall. Being vinyl, it is spongeable and hard-wearing, so it copes well in hallways, cloakrooms and bathrooms as well as living rooms. It comes in five colourways, Parchment, Teal/Indigo, Mineral, Charcoal/Bronze and Pebble: Parchment is the palest, Teal/Indigo and Mineral bring in colour without losing the tile-like calm, and Charcoal/Bronze and Pebble are the two darker, more mineral options for a smaller room.
We tend to use Moro on the long wall of a dining room, in a cloakroom where the tile-like geometry rewards a closer look, and behind a bed in a guest room. It pairs well with plain linen curtains and a textured weave on any upholstery, so the wall carries the only pattern in the room. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
The half-drop match with a 76.2 centimetre repeat is what governs quantities: allow a full repeat of waste on every drop, and check the roll length printed on the batch label before working out how many rolls the wall needs, since it is not fixed across every print run. Paste the wall with a heavy-duty adhesive, hang from a plumb line at the centre of the main wall, and make sure every roll on one wall comes from the same batch.
