Threads | Nikita

Nikita is a fine textured weave from the Threads Quintessential Naturals collection, a compendium of easy woven cloths for curtains and blinds. The structure is tiny, a 2.5 by 2 centimetre repeat that you see as a soft, even grain rather than a pattern, and the linen, cotton and viscose blend gives it a dry surface with a faint sheen where the viscose catches the light. It is a cloth that adds quiet interest to a window without asking to be noticed.

The composition is 46 per cent linen, 36 per cent viscose and 18 per cent cotton on a 137 centimetre width, with a 2.5 centimetre vertical and 2 centimetre horizontal repeat. The page lists it for curtains, and the collection is designed for curtains and blinds; no rub count is published, so we do not use it on seating. It comes in a single colourway, Linen, a warm natural that works with white walls, plaster pinks and most timbers.

We tend to use Nikita for full-length curtains in a living room or bedroom where the scheme is tonal and the texture has to do the work, and for Roman blinds in a kitchen or study. It pairs well with a heavier textured plain on the sofa and with one of the Nala Prints on cushions for contrast. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The repeat is small enough to ignore for quantities, but keep the direction of the weave consistent across widths and match the grain at the seams. Line the curtains, and interline them if the drop is long or the window faces south, to give the cloth enough weight to hang in soft folds and to protect the linen from fading; it is dry clean only, so allow for that when planning loose blinds.
