Threads | Oceania

Oceania is a fine, tightly woven performance plain from the Threads Winch Design Indoor I Outdoor Weaves Colour collection, with a tiny 2.5 by 1 centimetre repeat that shows as a close, even grain rather than any visible pattern. Developed with Winch Design, the polyolefin construction gives it a slightly drier, technical hand along with real resistance to sun, salt air and washing, while still feeling considered enough to bring indoors.

The cloth is 100 per cent polyolefin, 136 centimetres wide, with a 2.5 centimetre vertical and 1 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is rated at 40,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for loose and fixed upholstery, indoors or out, though not for curtains. It comes in two colourways, Sand and Moss: Sand is a warm, pale neutral, and Moss a grounded green for planting-heavy schemes.

We tend to use Oceania on outdoor sofa cushions and dining chairs, on a bench by the pool, and indoors on a window seat or a family sofa where washability matters. It pairs well with the plainer Winch Design weaves and with teak, stone and powder-coated metal. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

The repeat is small enough to ignore for most cutting, but do keep the weave direction consistent across every panel and cut all pieces for one item from the same bolt. Covers can be machine washed cool on a minimum wash or dry cleaned professionally; do not tumble dry, bleach or iron them, and use a solution-dyed thread and outdoor zips if the pieces are going to live outside for the season.
