Threads | Pampas

Pampas is a textured linen weave from the Threads Quintessential Naturals collection, a group of relaxed woven cloths designed for curtains and blinds. The design runs as a soft vertical rhythm, with the weave varying across the width and repeating every 49.7 centimetres, so on a drop it reads like the loose, feathery verticals of dried grasses rather than a stripe. Being pure linen, the surface is matte and slubbed and the drape is heavy and easy.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 137 centimetres wide, with a 49.7 centimetre horizontal repeat and no vertical repeat, which keeps cutting simple. The page lists it for curtains, and the collection is made for curtains and blinds; there is no rub count and we would not use it on seating. It comes in a single colourway, Ivory, a warm white that sits well with chalky walls, limestone floors and bleached timber.

We tend to use Pampas for full-length curtains in a bedroom or a coastal living room, where the vertical texture adds height and the linen keeps the room soft, and for Roman blinds in a bathroom or kitchen where a flat panel shows the weave properly. It pairs well with a heavier textured plain on the sofa and with a striped cushion from Great Stripes. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no vertical repeat, quantities are simply drop times widths, but the horizontal repeat means the design should be matched across the seams; ask your maker to line up the vertical texture so the join disappears. Line and interline for weight, allow for the natural movement of linen with a generous hem, and dry clean rather than wash to avoid shrinkage.
