Threads | Rattan Stripe

Rattan Stripe is a woven stripe from the Threads Meridian collection, its narrow bands built into the jacquard rather than printed on top, so the pattern has the same slight texture on both sides of the cloth. The stripe is fine and closely set, repeating every 19 centimetres down the length and 17 centimetres across, which gives it a woven, basket-like rhythm rather than the crispness of a formal ticking. It is a cloth with real presence at a window without being heavy.

The cloth is 100 per cent polyester, 137 centimetres wide, with a 19 centimetre vertical repeat and a 17 centimetre horizontal repeat. There is no published rub count, and the page lists it for curtains rather than upholstery, so we keep it to windows and blinds. It comes in a single colourway, Citrus, a bright, warm yellow that works best as a considered accent rather than covering a whole wall of glazing.

We tend to use Rattan Stripe for curtains in a kitchen or a garden room, where a shot of colour earns its place, and for Roman blinds where the woven stripe sits flat and reads clearly. It pairs well with a plain linen or a neutral textured weave elsewhere in the room, so the colour has room to work. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Match the stripe across joined widths and keep the weave running the same direction on every drop, since a woven pattern shows any inconsistency more readily than a print does. Being polyester, it is stable and resists fading better than a natural fibre in a bright room, though we still line curtains for weight and drape; dry clean only, and avoid direct heat when pressing.
