Threads | Shore

Shore is a wide-width performance weave from the Threads Winch Design Indoor I Outdoor collection, developed with Winch Design for curtains that need to work as well on a terrace as they do indoors. The surface carries a soft, broad texture rather than a motif, with a 76 centimetre vertical repeat and a 63 centimetre horizontal repeat giving it just enough structure to catch light without reading as pattern. At 290 centimetres wide it is designed to be railroaded, so most openings can be curtained without a single seam.

The cloth is 100 per cent acrylic, 290 centimetres wide, with a 76 centimetre vertical repeat and a 63 centimetre horizontal repeat. The page lists it for curtains rather than upholstery, and being an indoor-outdoor cloth it also suits a covered terrace, a pool house or a shaded loggia. It comes in two colourways, Marine and Dove: Marine is a deep, confident blue, while Dove is a soft, warm grey that reads as a quiet neutral in most settings.

We tend to use Shore for full-height curtains on a wide run of sliding doors, where the width means no visible seam across the whole opening, and for outdoor drapery around a covered terrace or a cabana. It pairs well with the plainer weaves elsewhere in the Winch Design range and with teak or powder-coated furniture. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Because the cloth is 290 centimetres wide it is railroaded: the width becomes the drop, and you order the length of your track, times fullness, rather than counting a number of separate widths. Ask your maker to match the repeat across any joins on a very wide opening, and machine wash cool on a minimum wash or dry clean; do not tumble dry, and iron on a cool setting only if needed.
