Varna is a textured weave from the Threads Quintessential Textures collection, a cotton-led blend with viscose, linen and a touch of acrylic for stability. The surface has a fine, even grain with a soft sheen from the viscose content, giving it more depth than a plain cotton weave without tipping into anything glossy. There is no motif, just a well-behaved plain built to work hard in a room that sees daily use, from a family living room to a busy hallway.

The composition is 63 per cent cotton, 20 per cent viscose, 15 per cent linen and 2 per cent acrylic, on a 128 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 50,000 rubs on the Martindale test, so it is rated for upholstery, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Parchment, a soft, warm neutral that sits well against most wall colours and wood tones, and reads as a genuine neutral rather than a flat white.

We tend to use Varna on a sofa or a pair of armchairs where a durable plain is needed, on dining chairs, and as substantial curtains where the weight helps the cloth hang well. It pairs well with a printed cushion from the Nala Prints collection or a bolder weave on an occasional chair. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

With no repeat, quantities are simple, but keep the weave direction consistent across every panel and cut the pieces for one item from the same bolt to avoid shading. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean the cloth rather than washing it.
