Threads | Verdure

Verdure is a soft, textured weave from the Threads Fascination collection, blending viscose, cotton, linen and a little polyester into a fine, even grain with no motif to speak of. It has a quiet, natural surface with just enough sheen from the viscose to catch the light, which is why we use it where a room wants texture without colour, and it drapes more softly than a heavier cloth from the same wider colour library.

The composition is 60 per cent viscose, 18 per cent cotton, 12 per cent linen and 10 per cent polyester, on a 137 centimetre width with no pattern repeat. It is rated at 20,000 rubs on the Martindale test, a moderate figure, so we would keep upholstered pieces to occasional chairs rather than a family sofa, and the page lists it for curtains and for loose and fixed upholstery. It comes in a single colourway, Oatmeal, a warm, soft beige that works with almost any neutral wall colour, from chalk white to a deeper taupe.

We tend to use Verdure for full-length curtains in a bedroom or living room, on an occasional chair, and as a cushion against a plainer sofa. It pairs well with a heavier textured weave from Quintessential Textures on the main seating, or with a print from Faraway for contrast. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

There is no repeat, so quantities are simple, but the weave can shade slightly along the roll, so cut all pieces for one item from the same bolt. Line and interline curtains for weight, and dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron it directly.
