Threads | Windward Stripe

Windward Stripe is a wide-width jacquard voile from the Threads Meridian Sheers collection, woven with a fine striped structure rather than printed on top, so the line has the same soft texture as the sheer ground around it. The stripe repeats every 39 centimetres down the cloth and 19.5 centimetres across it, close enough to read as a gentle, textured rhythm rather than a formal ticking through the light. At 296 centimetres wide it is designed to be railroaded, so most windows can be curtained without a single seam.

The cloth is 93 per cent polyester and 7 per cent viscose, 296 centimetres wide, with a 39 centimetre vertical repeat and a 19.5 centimetre horizontal repeat. It is a sheer, so it is not intended for blinds or upholstery of any kind. It comes in a single colourway, Dove Grey, a soft, warm grey that filters daylight gently and reads as a true neutral against almost any wall colour.

We tend to use Windward Stripe as the inner layer of a two-track window treatment, paired with a heavier curtain or a blind behind it, or on its own across a long run of glazing where the width means no joins at all. It pairs well with a plain textured weave from the Meridian collection on the outer curtain. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

Because the cloth is 296 centimetres wide it is railroaded: the width becomes the drop, and you order the length of your track, times fullness, rather than a number of drops. Sheers move with humidity, so ask your maker to allow a generous hem and let the curtains hang for a few days before final hemming; machine wash cool on a minimum wash or dry clean, and iron on a cool setting only if needed.
