Zanzibar is a loose, irregular abstract print from the Threads Faraway collection, drawn on a cotton-linen ground and matched to the Zanzibar wallcovering in the same range. The shapes are hand-cut rather than ruled, scattered across the cloth with a 68 centimetre vertical repeat and a 65 centimetre horizontal repeat, so the motif reads as texture and movement from across a room rather than a fixed pattern. Because the fabric and the wallcovering share the same drawing, the two can be run together in one room without competing.
The cloth is 60 per cent cotton and 40 per cent linen, 130 centimetres wide. There is no published rub count, so we treat it as a curtain, blind and light-seating cloth rather than a sofa fabric. It comes in three colourways, Parchment, Indigo and Charcoal: Parchment is the pale, neutral option, Indigo is the graphic choice with the most contrast, and Charcoal sits between the two, dark enough to ground a room without disappearing into it.
We tend to use Zanzibar for curtains in a living room or study, where the scale reads well at a distance, and for Roman blinds where the motif sits flat and stays legible. It also covers a pair of occasional chairs or a bench cushion well. Pair it with a plain textured weave on the main seating, or hang it against the Zanzibar wallcovering for a fully coordinated room. The near-square repeat means the pattern should be matched across widths, so plan seams where the drawing is quietest and check the position of the motif at the heading before cutting. Line and interline curtains in the usual way to protect the blend from sun and to give the drops enough weight; dry clean only, and keep it out of strong, direct sun on a south-facing window.
